American Fork

American Fork sits along the American Fork River in Utah County, at the mouth of American Fork Canyon and within reach of Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Utah Lake. Settled by Mormon pioneers in the summer of 1850 and incorporated in 1853, the city was originally called Lake City before taking its current name from the river. Historic buildings still standing include the 1877 Presbyterian Church and the 1939 Harrington School, the city's first free public school, both stops on American Fork's own historic walking tour. Today American Fork is a regional hub anchored by American Fork Hospital and the headquarters of Alpine School District, with 27 city parks including Rotary Park, Evergreen Park, and the Quail Cove amphitheater near the Mount Timpanogos Temple. American Fork High School, home of the Cavemen, is the city's unambiguous public high school — its marching band has been Utah state champion for more than two decades. Eagle Mountain sits in Utah County's Cedar Valley, spanning more than 50 square miles at the base of the Lake Mountains. Founded in 1996 with just 250 residents, the city has become one of the fastest-growing in the country — the Census Bureau's current estimate puts the population above 66,000, up more than 52% since 2020. The historic Pony Express Trail runs directly through Eagle Mountain, and Fremont-era petroglyphs dating back to 5000 BC have been found throughout Cedar Valley, including on the site where the city's current City Center stands. Eagle Mountain runs a Dark Skies Initiative to preserve its unusually clear night skies, and its motto, "Ascend Together," reflects a city built largely from scratch over the past three decades. Neighborhoods like SilverLake and Meadow Ranch have grown up around City Center, and the city maintains 135 miles of trails, five regional parks, and more than 50 neighborhood parks — anchored by Cory B. Wride Memorial Park. Cedar Valley High School, home of the Aviators, is currently Eagle Mountain's one public high school under Alpine School District, though a second high school at City Center is planned once the new Lake Mountain School District takes over local schools in 2027. Eagle Mountain's civic calendar is built around Pony Express Days each late May into June — a multi-week festival with a rodeo, parade, carnival, and fireworks — alongside a Summer Bash & Laser Show each July and Halloween Town each October.
