About American Fork

Welcome to American Fork, Utah

American Fork sits along the American Fork River in Utah County, at the mouth of American Fork Canyon and within reach of Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Utah Lake. Settled by Mormon pioneers in the summer of 1850 and incorporated in 1853, the city was originally called Lake City before taking its current name from the river. Historic buildings still standing include the 1877 Presbyterian Church and the 1939 Harrington School, the city's first free public school, both stops on American Fork's own historic walking tour. Today American Fork is a regional hub anchored by American Fork Hospital and the headquarters of Alpine School District, with 27 city parks including Rotary Park, Evergreen Park, and the Quail Cove amphitheater near the Mount Timpanogos Temple. American Fork High School, home of the Cavemen, is the city's unambiguous public high school — its marching band has been Utah state champion for more than two decades. Downtown sits about 20 minutes from Provo and 30 minutes from Salt Lake City via I-15. Each July, Steel Days brings a parade, car show, art and quilt shows, and fireworks to town as American Fork's signature summer celebration. The city also hosts Fork Fest each June, the Happy Valley Farmers Market on fall Friday evenings, and Holiday Magic at the Park each November.
