Welcome to Orem, Utah

Orem sits in Utah County between Utah Lake and Mount Timpanogos, just north of Provo. The area was originally farmland known as "Provo Bench," and was renamed for Walter C. Orem, a railroad executive who helped local growers ship their fruit to market. Incorporated in 1919, the city has long called itself "Family City USA," and today covers about 18.6 square miles at an elevation of roughly 4,772 feet. The city organizes its neighborhoods into nine planning districts, from Canyon View, Orchard, and Cascade in the foothills to Lakeview and Cherry Hill closer to Utah Lake. Utah Valley University anchors much of Orem's workforce and economy, and University Place — one of Utah County's largest retail centers — draws shoppers from across the valley. The SCERA Center for the Arts, Scera Park, and Mt. Timpanogos Park round out Orem's community institutions. Orem's civic calendar runs through the warmer months: OremFest brings a parade, car show, and fireworks each June; the Orem Summer Concert Series pairs free live music with the Orem Farmers Market on Wednesday nights through the summer; and Taste of Orem celebrates local food, music, and art each September at City Center Park. Public schools fall under Alpine School District, with both Orem High School and Mountain View High School serving different parts of the city.
