Herriman sits in the southwest corner of Salt Lake County, bordered by the Oquirrh Mountains, with views of the Kennecott copper mine at sunset. The city maintains more than 60 miles of trails — over 37 miles of primitive foothill trails and 23 miles of paved paths — plus Blackridge Reservoir for wading and kayaking, and city-county partnership access to the Butterfield Canyon Trailhead on its western edge. Between 2010 and 2019, Herriman was the fastest-growing city over 10,000 residents in the entire United States, and it has kept growing since — the Census Bureau's current estimate puts the population above 63,000, up nearly 15% since 2020. Jordan School District operates two comprehensive high schools inside Herriman — Herriman High (Mustangs) and Mountain Ridge High (Sentinels) — with district boundary lines still actively shifting between them. The city has embraced a "Herriman Yeti" as its unofficial mascot, showing up in events like the Yeti Run, Yeti's Foam Party, and Yeti Hunt. Herriman's civic calendar is anchored by Fort Herriman Towne Days, the city's largest annual event, held each summer at W&M Butterfield Park with a parade, car show, carnival, and fireworks. The city also hosts the Fort Herriman PRCA Rodeo each summer, Hungry Herriman food-truck gatherings at Crane Plaza, and Night of Lights each December, a laser light show projected onto City Hall.
