Draper sits at the Point of the Mountain, the geographic notch dividing the Salt Lake and Utah valleys — the city actually spans both Salt Lake and Utah counties. Settlement began in 1849 when Ebenezer Brown grazed cattle at South Willow Creek; the town was named Draperville for William Draper Jr., an early LDS bishop who settled there in 1850, and the city formally incorporated in 1978. Today Draper is part of the Silicon Slopes tech corridor, home to more than 1,000 businesses including Pluralsight, Dealertrack, 1-800 Contacts, and Tesla. The Point, a roughly 600-acre redevelopment of the former Utah State Prison site, is planned to bring housing, offices, and an innovation hub to the city's north end, while Traverse Mountain continues to grow as a retail and office center.
