Draper sits at the Point of the Mountain, the geographic notch dividing the Salt Lake and Utah valleys — the city actually spans both Salt Lake and Utah counties. Settlement began in 1849 when Ebenezer Brown grazed cattle at South Willow Creek; the town was named Draperville for William Draper Jr., an early LDS bishop who settled there in 1850, and the city formally incorporated in 1978. Today Draper is part of the Silicon Slopes tech corridor, home to more than 1,000 businesses including Pluralsight, Dealertrack, 1-800 Contacts, and Tesla. The Point, a roughly 600-acre redevelopment of the former Utah State Prison site, is planned to bring housing, offices, and an innovation hub to the city's north end, while Traverse Mountain continues to grow as a retail and office center. Draper also maintains more than 150 miles of trails across 5,000 acres of open space, including the Corner Canyon trail system on the city's east bench — the only trail network in Utah with views of both the Salt Lake and Utah valleys. Because Draper spans two counties and two school districts, there's no single "Draper High School" — Corner Canyon High (Chargers) sits inside city limits under Canyons School District, while Alta High also serves part of the city. Each July, Draper Days brings a rodeo, parade, concerts, and fireworks to town as the city's largest annual celebration.
