Springville sits in the foothills of the Wasatch Range, two miles east of Utah Lake and about 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. First settled in 1849 along Hobble Creek — a name that still lives on in the city's golf course and canyon stream — Springville incorporated in 1853 and calls itself "The Art City" today, a nod to the Springville Museum of Art and a downtown Historic District covering roughly 500 acres on the National Register of Historic Places. Civic Center Park anchors much of Springville's community life, hosting the weekly Gazebo Gatherings alongside the summer Farmers Market, while Festival Street downtown hosts a weekly busker series and monthly public art events. Nebo School District serves the city through Springville High School, home of the Red Devils, whose colors are Red Devil Red and Red Devil Blue. Springville's civic calendar includes Art City Days each June — the city's largest celebration, with a parade, carnival, and balloon festival — the Springville Art Festival each September, and Light-Up Springville each December, a holiday home-decorating contest that rewards winners with utility-bill credits.
